These short stories and some few poems covers a period in the time of government of this country, Nigeria, were those hard lined men that were arrayed in stars and badges in their fine creaseless uniforms destroyed this country – they were also referred to as the military. When these poems were written in 1980s, the author was daydreaming that he was always having these conversations with a foreigner about the woes of this country called Nigeria.
These conversations covered a period of about twelve months, and they talked about a lot of issues from governance to academic institutions and the people generally. But looking at the poems today, they serve as history, especially history that will challenge our minds about who we were, where we came from and where actually we are headed. It was a discussion from an adolescent’s point of view in the 1980s, and some of the salient points discussed which formed the core of this series of poems are still valid today in present day Nigeria.
