It was the period that would go down in history as the “Essential Commodity” or as it was called then “Essenco” era and I arrived the University of Ibadan the second week of January 1984. The next day after my arrival I started to pursue my registration papers. I knew it was not going to be smooth sailing for me. I still had to go back to University of Benin to collect some few signatures from some of my old lecturers. That was part of the requirements for transferring from one university to another. The thought of University of Benin was always uppermost on my mind, but I tried to push it aside for the time being. I had been advised from home not to allow such thoughts to disturb me....
