This is the story of Uguan whose real name was Prince Okpame and his many exploits as a young man in Benin Kingdom and even outside the Kingdom. Uguan was the third child from the third wife of Oba Ewuare the Great. And like all fairy tale, it all began with –

Once upon a time, in the ancient city of Benin there lived a great Oba called Ewuare. He had three wives. The first wife was the first to conceive and she delivered a male child, but the child had medical problems from birth. This medical ailment ultimately disqualified him from ascending the throne of his father. Then two years later, both the second and third wives became pregnant at the same time.
